Conserve Butternut Trees

Researchers with the USDA Forest Service seek your help to conserve butternut -- a tree rapidly disappearing from the eastern U.S. forest because of butternut canker disease.

They are collecting seeds or scion wood from butternut trees to preserve the genetic diversity of this beautiful and valuable tree.

To report the location of trees, or for more information, contact Keith Woeste, Purdue University at 765.496.6808 or woeste@purdue.edu.

Our volunteers focus on proper stewardship and management of woodlands in northeast Indiana.
