| Better woodland management was promoted to northeast Indiana
landowners by Wood-Land-Lakes with Indiana Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) and
local Soil and Water Conservation Districts (SWCDs). IDNR awarded Forest
Stewardship grants and local SWCDs provided funds to us as incentives for
improving northeast Indiana woodlots through Timber Stand Improvement (TSI)
projects in 1999 and 2000. Under the 1999 Grant, more than 50 woodlot
owners improved about 1,000 acres of woodlands. Under the 2000 Grant, 27
landowners improved 554 acres of woodlands. Landowners received financial
assistance worth around 50% of about $24,600 in total project costs.
These two projects filled a void that is now being addressed by several
new programs through the
IDNR. Follow the IDNR link to learn more about current grants
and assistance available for Timber Stand Improvement. Wood-Land-Lakes will continue to
look for areas where local concerns are being left unaddressed and see how we
can “make things happen.” |
